Our Story at 2 Unique Caterers & Event Planners

Chef-Owner Kelli Lewton’s passion for fresh food and personal service led her to establish 2 Unique in 1991, after spending several years as a chef at some of the more notable fine dining establishments in the Detroit Metro Area.  Over the past 19 years, 2 Unique has grown to become one of Metro Detroit’s leading catering and event planning firms.  Individual client attention and devotion to quality preparation and presentation are the hallmarks that Chef Kelli and her team are known for.  Two Unique Caterers have created successful events as large as five thousand guests.  We have been awarded the Best Caterer in the Detroit Area by the Detroit News in 2006, 3rd Place in Vote 4 the Best- Click on Detroit- Best Caterer 2010, as well as Best Caterer by the KNOT Magazine in 2010.

Chef Kelli’s culinary talents have served two United States Presidents, professional athletes and numerous CEOs.  She received her culinary training at the highly-regarded Schoolcraft Culinary Arts program and has maintained her successful relationship with Schoolcraft by serving as an instructor in the Culinary Arts program since 1993.  Chef Kelli has also been a competing member and a multiple gold medal winner of the American Culinary Federation and the Michigan Culinary Olympic Team.  Two Unique Caterers & Event Planners is very proud of its amazing team and impeccable service staff.  I assure you that our friendly and professional staff will provide as well as execute an event above and beyond your expectations.

Is to bring the freshest organic and free range products into our kitchen and with our passion for all things PURE food create simply wonderful dishes bursting with amazing full flavor that will promote a sense of well being, health and happiness in our customer’s lives!  Nothing fake or foodservice, but rather REAL & PURE foods to enrich your life!

We select “natural” food that is minimally processed and free of irradiation, artificial additives, and ingredients that do not occur naturally in food such as artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, synthetic preservatives, hydrogenated oils, stabilizers, emulsifiers, growth hormones, and antibiotics.

Is everything in our products Organic?
The vast majority of all of our dishes are made with; organic, free range and pasture meat sources.  Our standard is as close to the vine as possible and whole food products.  (You can’t pick high fructose corn syrup from anywhere!)   However sometimes the organic choice is not available, or is very expensive, or doesn’t taste very good; in those cases we have found natural alternatives that meet our criteria or we will make a change to the menu as AWESOME tasting & healthful is our PURE FOOD promise 2 U!

What is Organic vs. Made with Organic Ingredients?
A. Certified Organic food is produced without synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, irradiation, or genetic engineering, and is grown within a system of organic farming that recycles resources, promotes biodiversity, and encourages a healthy environment. This is regulated by the USDA. Organic farmers use good soil management and biological practices to control pests, weeds, and plant disease. They build healthy soil, use “good insects” such as ladybugs to control “bad insects”, and control weeds through cultivation and mechanical methods, rather than apply toxic chemical pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides. Healthy soil builds healthy plants that resist disease, which in turn builds healthy bodies. Made with Organic Ingredients means that that we are using Certified Organic Ingredients mixed with Natural Ingredients to meet our criteria for delicious.

What is Natural?
The term “natural” means different things to different people. There are no agreed upon standards or inspections that govern the term. For purefood2u our “natural” food is minimally processed and free of irradiation, artificial additives, and ingredients that do not occur naturally in food such as artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, synthetic preservatives, hydrogenated oils, stabilizers, emulsifiers, growth hormones, and antibiotics.

purefood2u holds as a core belief that healthy plants and animals, raised with care and integrity and dignity, provide the finest tasting, most flavorful, and nutritious food available. Eating fresh vegetables grown from a sustainable garden of an accomplished gardener just makes good healthy sense! We strive to create dishes that are simple but rich in; flavor, texture aroma and most important TASTE and PURITY!

There have been many research articles published that show that the vitamin, mineral, and phytonutrient content is far greater in foods that are organically grown. An interesting fact also is that there’s less water in organic vegetables so pound for pound you get more carrot for your carrot. At the end of the day it’s up to you, but it does seem logical that whole foods grown in a healthy farm environment will have better stuff in them and taste like they are supposed to taste.

NO scientists, no focus groups… just a dedicated team tasting, sipping, agreeing, disagreeing. We’re proud of what we make, and we love the opportunity to serve wholesome great tasting purefood2u!
